Artist Statement
My work revolves around themes relating to the subconscious. This can be expressed in a variety of ways that my works have explored, including fantastical creatures, memory, dreams, and horror. I want people to pause and contemplate while seeing my work, wondering about the story behind it or how I managed to think of this.
To create art work, I often create sketches of any concepts I have on a piece or organize my thoughts by taking notes. There is heavy focus on the central subject of the piece during this process. Once this process in done, these ideas are combined into a final sketch. This process is an effective way for me to flesh out my ideas and make decisions. I focus on creating heavily fictional works, whether that be through more surreal themes or by exploring fantasy. I have shifted towards digital artworks, allowing me to get accurate colors and also it is easier for me to share my work with others.
My most recent work explores where memory and imagination originate from, the brain. It observes it as a constantly running "machine" that continuously comes up with visuals, even the most abstract and unusual ones. It builds on my most recent work, with experimentation in both sculpture and animation. While the animation and the brain are the main focus in this work, there is a surrounding theme of the body, as other parts of the body help to power the brain.
